A stump job, start to finish
1. Call or request
Tell us the stump size, where it sits, and how we get to it. A photo helps.
2. Plan the grind
We mark sprinklers, check access, and set the depth for whatever comes next in that spot.
3. Grind below grade
The stump and its flare come down under the level of your lawn with a carbide-toothed wheel.
4. Clean up
Grindings get backfilled and raked level, or hauled away if you are replanting.
Why hire a specialist
Grinding is its own trade
A stump is not just wood above the ground. It is a root flare, buried rock, and often a sprinkler line a few inches away. Doing it properly is about knowing when to stop and how to protect what is around it.
- Sprinkler heads, lines and utility marks located before the wheel touches wood
- Depth set for what you want next — lawn, a new tree, or a patio base
- Chips and soil backfilled and raked, or hauled off if you ask
- Compact equipment keeps fenced yards and narrow side paths intact

Answers
Common stump questions
How deep do you grind a stump?
Most stumps are ground four to eight inches below grade, which is enough to plant grass over the spot or run a mower across it without hitting wood. Depth depends on the root flare and what is underneath — sprinkler lines, gravel, or a hard clay layer can change how far down we take it.
Do you clean up the grindings?
Yes. We either backfill the hole with the grindings and rake the area smooth, or haul the material off if you want to plant something in that spot. Tell us which you prefer when you call.
Can you grind a stump in my backyard?
Usually. Our equipment is sized to fit through a standard gate opening, so fenced backyards are routine work. Send a photo of the gate and the path to the stump and we can confirm access before we come out.
